Tendence – trends for 2019

German fair Tendence is the last of the season and the first of 2019. Taking place in June July in Frankfurt with 960 exhibitors and 20 000 visitors. Here small shops get things for Christmas and larger buyers for spring 2019. I will look at new trends that stood out – I might have the mandatory “it-item” of 2019. Are you tired of the cactus? The pineapple? Or even the flamingo? I know what will be huge next year. It rhymes with “gold smisch”.

We have seen the colour pink for quite some time and it seems like we are not done yet.

There is absolutely a “scandi pink” with beige and wood. A very serious and calm colour setting.

When combined with green, the colours get a bit more daring.

And of course when you combine pink, dusty rose with pure red.

Yellow of all kinds are coming strong.

You could say that we are slowly leaving these dusty tones and get a brighter palette. I actually read that “optimism” might be a word for 2019 and I don’t think I have seen the word “happy” in as many places as this. I guess it is trendy to be happy?

Brighter and happier

Beside the pink and yellow happy trend there is a calm and blue trend. I think this darker, denim blue is something we will see much more of. If we have pink and happy on one side, we should get blue (and green) as a quiet and homely palette.

If we leave the colours aside, I think we will see much more of Asian and oriental references. Perhaps even Japanese.

Even Christmas ornaments might be inspirered by Asian cultures.

A plain white flower pot but with Chinese dragons.

Blue and Japanese cranes

Blue and crafted, inspirered Shibori textile

Even traditional things like cherry blossoms are seen. Here on vases.

We have seen baskets and wicker work a while but I absolutely think they would go well with this Asian and oriental theme.

But finally – what is the object of 2019?? I dare name the goldfish as the it item everyone will get and eventually get tired of. I dare bet that this will be as common as the cactus, pineapple or owl from previous years.
