Last week I got the opportunity to host an event at Klong. Seven new pieces. That is a pretty big launch, so here is my story.
I have been hanging out with Swedish design brand Klong for a while. And last year they asked me to help them with their launch for 2024. And now, a new year and a new collection. Klong is founded by Eva and now second generation with Georg as CEO of the company. Eva is mainly in charge of the product development and choosing designers.
Most commonly the designer would approach Eva and together they find a way of bringing the product to the market. It could be a quick process – or take as long as several, several years.
A nice picture of Georg.
We got together at an old firestation just outside of the city center. Klong have a whole old brick building. So, here we were for coffee and bubbles.
Every designer made an installation to talk about the process and thinking behind the things.
And I got to act as a moderator.
First out was Peter Andersson. He made a small sidetable. Inspiration from the bound leather leg comes from tennis racquets.
It is a really nice piece with elegant details.
Second out is Viktor Erlandsson that made a door knob. Why a door knob? Well, there aren’t really any contemporary ones. Let’s say you have a super modern house and want a door knob. Should it be a lion then?? No, this is for the contemporary life.
Third out is Charlotte von der Lancken that made a vase that doubles as a candleholder. You can separate the “collar” and put it separately on a table. And the collor should of course reflect the flowers or the candle.
Fourth one out is Synnöve Mork with these candleholders. I just think they look so expensive. The inspiration is from origami, and you can actually see how the candleholder would have look completely different if you would have tilted the holder.
Eva Schildt made an updated version of the flower holder (or vase) called Äng. Now with room for larger stemmed flowers and there the metal is now more “leans” on the glass instead of standing on metal feet.
Design studio Broberg Ridderstråle managed to avoid the camera. When I look at pictures I only see their backs… But here are their things. They have made completely new parts for the lantern Patina, and also new colour in orange.
All new parts. Also as an extension they made lamp Pavo as a smaller version.
Lovisa Wattman (here in the middle) made a desk top set. Could work for the home office or a standard office where you want to add some more “executive toys”.
Pen holder, a bowl (for paper clips etc) and a scotch tape holder.
The tape holder is inspired by the pinwheel and you are supposed to touch and play with it.
