Formland – fall 2024

Denmark’s and of course one of Scandinavia’s largest interior design fairs is Formland. Twice per year and now time to gear up for a new season. Here is the report from Formland.

With 440 brands and 7 234 visitors this is an important fair of the region. During the August edition you find a lot of the important tableware brands like Royal Copenhagen, Georg Jensen and Iittala. A great opportunity to look for new things for coming six months.

From my humble and professional perspective, Formland is a friendly and colourful fair. There are plenty of halls instead of one big super hall and that means you can work with a dedicated content per hall. And since it fair is big, but not super crowded, it is easy to start a casual conversation with exhibitors. Super friendly.

And also good looking. The fair works with one enormous trend exhibition and several cafe concepts. Also plenty of stations for various workshops.

Anti AI?

I start my report in colours and features at the trend installation done by Studie Fly Helsted. This year they focused on “anti AI”. What does that mean? AI is a hype. We will see where it takes us – but what we long for now is something handmade. I personally loved how the studio made handpainted graphic details on the walls. Instead of wallpaper – paint your own.

You could also see in the selection of the pieces that there were a lot of these handmade, uneven details. Far from glossy perfection in AI. This by Lene Bjerre.

I am not super sure, but perhaps we will see a whole new interest in DIY things? Here are these Danish plastic beads that seem to get a revival.

No more fiddling around with your mobile phone. Perhaps make this kind of art instead?

Trendhunter in the mirror… But I have this wallpaper that I like. It is a proper wallpaper and not handdrawn on the wall – but imagine if it was handdrawn… It would have been amazing.

Multi coloured

Formland is one of the most colourful fairs I know. Here you find ALL kinds of colourschemes. One thing I noted this year was that things tend to get two-coloured now. A base in one colour and then the top in a different one.

Like here with these glass pices by AU Maison.

More from AU Maison.

These lamps. Coloured base and a different colour on the shade. By Pink Rose.

Or these vases by Present Time.

Or these candles by Kunstindustrien.

Orange

Orange is absolutley one of my favourite colours so of course I am super happy to see that “orange is the new black”.

Carpet at Liv Interiör-

Stelton launched new thermoses with orange.

Georg Jensen with orange wall clock.

Royal Copenhagen with these thermo cups. We will look at them closer in the section below…

Orange and blue at AU Maison.

Table cloth at Au Maison.

Two kinds of orange at Eva Solo for outdoor.

Blue and grey

One of the most dominant colour combinations at Formland was this blue-grey thing. I actually talked about is in January here. So apparently a second season for this. So I guess it is staying for a while.

Here at the trend installation by Pejgruppen.

A sidetable at Hübsch.

Candles at Ester & Erik.

Bed set by Engholm Textiles. I just loooooove how they work with lace in bed sets.

Stelton.

Georg Jensen, Not new, but still…

And here are these thermo cups again. It has a water colour effect. Nice, By Royal Copenhagen.

I also fell in love with these Romanian ceramics that were presented by Jou Quilts. She also made the curtains below.

Blue with my favourite sustainable brand Lubech Living.

So, as a conclusion. Formland is great. Colourful and fun. Talkative. Lots of workshops and seminars. I am missing a few young talents. Would like to see more of emerging brands. But still. A great show. Happy to see that many Swedes and Germans participated. I give it 8 out of 10.
