Formex – January 2025

Swedish interior design fair Formex took place in January. Here is my report.

Fair season, and my local fair Formex took place. We can start with some optimistic thinking. The fair was really, really appreciated. I was there two of the three days and talked to many exhibitors, and comments were positive. I asked what grade they would give this, and most really wanted to give Formex an 8 out ot 10.

That’s a good grade.

Formex also tried new dates, and partially opened up to the public for one evening. I am very pro new thinking so this sounds really nice.

As usually I am at Formex to do my design walks and look at new things. Of course also seminars and trendhunting.

Formex is avoiding talking about numbers. I can’t find any official numbers of visitors, but if I look at the exhibitor’s list you see that there were 238 brands. With only just around 250 brands, this is a fair that is not growing. But that is ok. As mentioned, exhibitors were happy.

For those of you attending my trend seminars this year, you will notice that I talk a lot about petcare and the whole pet industry – and yes, this is most visiably here at Formex. This cat bowl by Tail Living won best in show at Formex. Well deserved.

I also talk a lot about locality. This throw by Kristina Stark for Klippan. These are architectural elements from a church dine by Swedish architect Sigurd Lewerentz in the town of Klippan (yes, same name).

Same kind of colours and architectural features at Paradisverkstan.

Lovely moody colours by AB Småland

Almost the same kind of moody colours at the trend installation by Krickelin.

But of course there are colours and fun at Formex. Here a 70s inspirerd carpet by Forslundska Form.

Formex brought some really strong colours this year. Here seed pockets from Olsson & Lohaven.

Paddywax

All three above from Rice. I see that we will have a trend with flower ON containers.

Seagulls from Milton Home. Fun.

Speaking of colours. I know that a brand like Affari is pushing colours now. Personally I see that wine and cocktail glasses get a stem again. It has been low – but now higher.

Miljögården with pressed, real flowers in glass.

And Olsson & Jensen with a nice pillow.
