Frankfurt fair Ambiente is considered to be the world’s largest interior design fair. With almost 150 000 visitors and almost 4 700 exhibitors, this is absolutely a big player. Here is my report from the fair 2025.
Most interior design fairs happen twice per year, but Ambiente is only once yearly. If you compare this event to Maison & Objet, then the French fair would have more of interior objects, meaning a bit more of styling products. A huge focus for Ambiente is kitchen and several halls are filled with kitchen utensils, and others only on cutlery or tableware. Sure, there are of course interior design styling objects too but the uniqueness of the fair is on kitchens. Hence also a lot of people in the hospitality industry comes for inspiration for new restaurants etc.
Another unique angle for Ambiente is that is sharing the dates and fair ground with Christmasworld. Six or seven halls are ONLY about Christmas objects.
But how was it?
Good. I must say, surprisingly good. Almost all fairs I have been to in 2025 have had more optimism than I expected. At Ambiente too. Officially an increase in number of visitors. According to my notes from last year, the edition of Ambiente had almost 10 000 more visitors in 2025.
I met a lot of producers – both in their stands and also in the hallways. I also met a lot of shopowners spending four or five days filling their stock here. Big brands like Alessi was here. Celebrities like Jamie Oliver was here.
People come here for inspiration too – but I must say – this is a fair for business. Inspiration is secondary. But there are a few installations.
There was even a new trend installation focusing mainly on trends and hospitality.
Serving fruits on a candle holder?? But fun. Love the concept.
But a kind of conclusion before we go into trends? I think Ambiente had it all. I think this was the best fair of the season. Does that mean I give it ten out of ten? I think so. Ten out of ten points. Best fair of 2025, so far.
Trends
Well, you are most likely reading this to see if I found any trends from Ambiente. Something we can expect to see at stores later on. Here are my findings. Maybe start with colours.
Emerald or teal
There isn’t really a dominant trend colour this season. It is all a bit fluid. I think it is because of recession and hard times. We simply don’t dare to go “all in” for a dominant trend colour. What if we were wrong?
But green is here. Especially this blue-ish green, or as we call it – teal. Here on cutlery at Broste Copenhagen.
Here at Alessi that brought new colours to previous classics.
At the trend installation with focus on hospitality.
Teal salt&pepper grinder.
It kind feels like a 90s colour, doesn’t it? Here at the overall trend installation.
Vintage teal feeling at Vista Alegre.
Teal ceramics
Here you find this teal in the detail of this plate. Orange and mint is dominant, but you need the teal. I love this. I even have it for one of my colour trends for 2026.
Crayola yellow
A colour that really felt “new” was this yellow which was pretty intense. It is not really lemon coloured. More like a crayola pen. Here at Danish Crushgrind.
Here at Guzzini
Again from the hospitality trend installation.
At the Portuguese trend installation.
Alessi again
Repetition
Something that was EVERYWHERE were these vases and pots with repetition of animals or fruits. It was everywhere.
We will be talking more about pets in the report from Christmasworld later.
Pets (mainly dogs and cats)
As mentioned, we will talk more about pets when we do the report from Christmasworld – but ofcourse we see these cute pets at Ambiente too.
Americana sports nostalgia
Something I think will be big in the coming years (I know it is early…), but Americana sports nostalgia.
Flowers
I saw a lot of these bright coloured, kind of 70s flowers. Especially in table ware.
Textiles from Swedish Ekelunds.
Matte and shiny
Trends in plates and tableware. This section moves slowly. And that is fine. You don’t want your tableware to change toooooo quickly. What I did see was that plates got a bit whiter and more interestingly that there was a mix och shiny and matte.
Other things I loved
One thing I believe we will see more of – is historical art. When I walk through the fast fashion chains I see how prints by van Gogh and others are on t-shirts. I am sure we will see more of this in interior design. Schiller & Goethe salt and peppershakers, Mona Lisa and Ferdinand Leger on tea towels… Expect more of this.
I saw several cooking pots where you could take away the handle. Better for storage.
